Remove both question and answer requirements Meta is a great way for new users to ask questions about the site, so there shouldn't be a rep restriction keeping them from doing so. New users should be able to use the Sandbox, so we should remove the answer requirement as well. Questions Rep requirements for meta participation make sense on other SE sites. ...

No. This is similar to updating the language after the actual question has been posted. It's simply no different. To circumvent this loophole, maybe question askers should put the date at which it was posted in the sandbox and say that programming languages must not have features relevant to the question past the aforementioned date.

5. Delete posted challenges, keep abandoned.

Yes, I think the Sandbox is effective You may comment on this answer listing the numbers of the reasons you think the Sandbox is effective: I regularly use the sandbox to improve my challenges. I regularly see posted challenges that were improved by their time in the Sandbox. I regularly see the Sandbox weed out bad/duplicate challenges. I'm too lazy to ...

This is now part of the community FAQ. I suggest that abandoned challenge proposals should be free for others to use as they see fit. First of all, there are no licence problems with this. All SE posts are licensed under CC BY-SA, which allows modification and redistribution as long as the original source (original author) is attributed. So everything that ...

Waving Hands bot This is a sketch for a king-of-the-hill contest for a game which is much more complicated than the previous questions in this genre. Implementing the test framework will be a lot of work and it will require a lot of debugging, so I want to get feedback on whether the game is too complicated before I start work on that. Waving Hands (...

Where is the sandbox? The sandbox is located on this meta post. Sandboxed challenges are posted as answers to this question. Why should I use the sandbox? You might be thinking, perhaps, why would you stage questions on the sandbox instead of posting them directly? To answer this, let's see what could happen if you post it directly: If your question is ...

Conquer the Solar System king-of-the-hill Here is an outline for a strategical King-of-the-Hill challenge which is loosely based on Risk (loosely enough so as not to preclude a future Classic Risk KotH). It is far from complete, but I'm posting it here to gather feedback from the community to finalise the rules before getting down to implementing the ...

How long should I leave a question in the sandbox? In general you should leave a question at least 72 hours to ensure that the people who check it fairly regularly will have a chance to see it and comment.

24

No, I don't think the Sandbox is effective You may comment on this answer listing the numbers of the reasons you think the Sandbox is not effective: My sandbox posts have received little or no feedback, leaving them in an uncertain limbo. I regularly see decent sandbox posts with little or no feedback. I have had plenty of success posting challenges ...

Proposal for the handling of retired sandboxes - Don't! I suggest to stop retiring sandboxes and keep using a single one. Sandboxes should be sorted by activity, because even at 50 or 100 answers, they are too big to find the active ones when sorting by votes. Assuming everyone does that, we can basically forget about the additional pages, because they will ...

In this post, I'm speaking as a user, not a moderator. Your proposal could be workable, if we are willing to weed out questions (and answers) as aggressively as is being done on the Software Recommendations site (and if we have enough high-rep users who can nuke inappropriate questions and answers quickly). That doesn't seem to be the current trend, though. ...

King of the Hill- Simple RPG king-of-the-hill Your challenge is to make a bot that plays a simple RPG game against other bots. The Rules of the Game The Board The board is a 500x500 2-dimensional array of cells. In any cell, there is one of the following: Nothing. An obstacle. Cannot be occupied by anything. A player. A monster. Mechanics Each turn, ...

Code Golf Stack Exchange is a site for recreational programming competitions, not general programming questions. Challenges must have an objective scoring criterion, and it is highly recommended to first post proposed challenges in the Sandbox. Short & (mostly) to the point. Biggest difference from others suggested here is a proper-ish intro as to not ...

I've disabled auto-protection on this meta site. Or rather, set the relevant thresholds (answers from new users) to 10,000. That should keep things under control for a few weeks.

Anarchist chess king-of-the-hill Just like chess, except that instead of two opposing armies, it's a free-for-all among the pawns. The two players alternate moves. The allowed moves are to move a pawn one square forward (if the square ahead is unoccupied); if the pawn is on its initial position, to move it two squares forward (if the two squares ahead are ...

In response to the question which Doorknob asks in his answer, Aren't you just reinventing Stack Exchange? I think that he does Chris Jester-Young's suggestion an injustice. It's not reinventing SE so much as making a small extension which turns an existing feature (cross-site migration) into something much more useful. At present we can only use it to ...

Underwater Survival Game king-of-the-hill Lions and bears are extinct, the wolves dominate the fauna on land. But in the depths of the sea the battle for survival rages on. This is the spiritual sequel to Rainbolt's Survival Game, with a few additions. The arena is the sea and hence three-dimensional. Furthermore, you can choose one of three different ...

I can't believe it's not a Platypus!!! This is an image of our wonderful pet platypus @Cyoce. This is also an image of the same person, or is it? (hint: it isn't) Your task is to determine whether a inputted image is @Cyoce in disguise... The input may be taken in any form. It will also always be 256*256px. You will compare the image to the top image, @...

You're welcome to take this over. I don't have time, sorry :-( Count the pips in a pair of dice Here are two photographs of a pair of randomly thrown dice. Can you program your ...

Make it compatible with the new top bar Since Stack Exchange has changed its top bar across all the sites in the network, one can no longer use the sandbox viewer. Here is how it looks like now: As you can see the button is no longer there. * Also you cannot change the settings of the "PPCG Graduation" script) (status-completed)

Do it as a Cops n Robbers You'll need the following: I wouldn't limit the language to those, but rather those with an Esolang page, or on wikipedia's list of languages. The language, however, must be specified by the cop. I recommend explicitly saying that you must write your own submission The challenge they choose must have a positive score and not be ...

Template for Challenge Proposals Every proposal should contain several fixed pieces of information, including a title, the tags you intend to use and body of the challenge as you intend to post it on main. For a more uniform look of the sandbox (and easier orientation of reviewers), it is recommended that you use the following markdown template: # My ...

I'm very happy with getting rid of the list of answers and replacing them with a few useful links instead. No more manual updating, and no more scrolling for a fortnight to get past the question. I would find it very useful to have the link to your own answers that MartinBĂĽttner suggests. This one is also sorted by active, so you can see what you have been ...

I know that this is strikingly similar to Chris's answer, but I feel it's different enough that it merits its own answer. TL;DR Make a new domain (sandbox.codegolf.stackexchange.com) for hosting the sandbox. Use the standard SE Meta template for the site, with answers disabled, comments always expanded, and rep only affected by comments. Read on for more ...
